Rutherford Regional Health System (RRHS) is pleased to announce the addition of Diego F. Pabon, MD, as a general surgeon with Rutherford Surgical Associates and a member of the RRHS medical staff. Pabon comes to RRHS from Hugh Chatham Memorial Hospital in Elkin, NC.
Dr. Pabon is board-certified in general surgery and fellowship-trained in thoracic surgery. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, and he comes to Rutherford County as a highly trained, published specialist with clinical interests in all aspects of general surgery.
He specializes in minimally invasive surgeries for colons and hernias, as well as video-assisted thoracic and lung procedures. Additional areas of specialties include thyroid, breast, upper and lower endoscopies, general thoracic and abdominal surgeries, pacemakers and GERD (gastroesophageal reflux disease).
Dr. Pabon added, “I was drawn to Rutherford Regional for the opportunity to work with an exceptional group of surgeons and an outstanding medical staff. After receiving his medical degree from Universidad Industrial de Santander, School of Medicine in Bucaramanga, Colombia, Dr. Pabon completed his residency in General Surgery at the University of Miami and the University of South Carolina, Palmetto Health in Columbia, S.C.
Fluent in English and Spanish, Dr. Pabon is accepting patients at Rutherford Surgical Associates, which allows self-referrals. Rutherford Surgical Associates is owned and operated by RRHS and is located at 330 Highway 108 in Rutherfordton. The office can be reached by calling 828-286-1743.

He completed his Internship and Residency at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta, Georgia. Dr. Haden is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons. He is Board Certified in Surgery.

Rod Goncalves, M.D.
Dr. Goncalves received his medical education from the Northwestern University Medical School in Chicago, Ill. Following medical school, Goncalves served in the Army from June 1991 to December 1999 and achieved the rank of Major. He completed his surgical residency at Memorial Health University in Savannah, Ga., in June 2001 with superior endoscopic training and trauma and critical care training in a level 1 trauma center. Dr. Goncalves achieved Board Certification in 2001 by the American College of Surgeons, where he is also an associate fellow.
